Sex Doll Care Guide: First-Time Owner Cheat Sheet
This is the practical care guide we give Vivant Dolls customers after a purchase. A realistic doll can stay in usable condition for a long time if you keep it clean, dry it thoroughly, protect the delicate areas and avoid a few common mistakes.
Materials and construction vary by manufacturer, so instructions supplied with your specific doll take priority when they differ from this guide. Generally speaking, what’s good for your skin is also good for TPE, and what’s bad for your skin is also bad for TPE—but do not assume every skin-care or household product is compatible with every TPE or silicone formulation.
First-Time Owner Cheat Sheet
- Clean internally after use. Our simple method is a soft sponge cut to size, held securely with 12-inch locking medical forceps, using warm soapy water.
- Dry the openings completely. Cleaning without drying can leave moisture trapped inside.
- Protect the fingers and wrists. They are among the easiest parts to damage. Never let the doll’s body weight rest on them.
- Be careful with dark clothing and fabrics. Dye can transfer into TPE or silicone and may be difficult or impossible to remove.
- Protect the face and makeup. Eyelashes, makeup and facial details need gentler handling than the body.
- Store the doll without prolonged pressure or stressed joints. Keep it away from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
1. External Cleaning
For routine exterior cleaning, use warm water, mild soap or another cleaner confirmed compatible with your doll’s material, and a soft non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Treat the material gently and avoid aggressive scrubbing, especially around makeup and delicate facial details.
A sponge bath on a stable padded surface is often easier than trying to maneuver a heavy doll in a bathtub or shower. Do not submerge the head, neck connector, electrical components or other areas the manufacturer says must remain dry.
Generally speaking, what’s good for your skin is also good for TPE, and what’s bad for your skin is also bad for TPE. Think gentle rather than harsh. Avoid solvents, strong chemicals and excessive heat unless the manufacturer specifically approves a product or procedure.
2. Internal Cleaning: The Forceps-and-Sponge Method
This is the inexpensive method we have used and recommended for years because it gives you direct mechanical cleaning rather than simply flushing an opening.
What you need:
- 12-inch locking medical forceps
- A clean soft sponge cut small enough to fit comfortably into the opening
- Warm water
- Mild material-compatible soap or cleaner
- Paper towels or another clean absorbent drying material
Clamp the sponge securely in the forceps, saturate it with warm soapy water and gently clean the inside of the used opening. Do not force the sponge farther than it moves comfortably and do not scrape the material with the metal forceps. Repeat with clean water as needed to remove soap residue.
If your doll has removable inserts or the manufacturer provides a specific cleaning system, follow those instructions instead when appropriate.
3. Drying: Do Not Skip This Step
Getting the doll clean is only half the job. The inside needs to be dry before storage.
After rinsing, use clean absorbent material held securely with the forceps to remove moisture. Be gentle and make sure the metal does not scrape the doll. Repeat with dry material until you are no longer pulling out significant moisture, then allow the opening to finish air-drying as appropriate for the model.
Do not put a damp doll into closed storage. Trapped moisture can create odor and other problems.
4. Dark Clothing Can Stain the Doll
TPE and silicone can pick up dye from clothing and other surfaces. Black, dark blue, red, leather-look, vinyl and heavily dyed fabrics deserve particular caution.
Common mistakes include leaving a doll overnight in dark lingerie, placing it on a dark chair or blanket, or leaving printed material against the skin. Wash new clothing before use when practical, test questionable fabrics on an inconspicuous area, and do not store the doll long-term in dark clothing.
Light-colored fabrics are the safer choice for extended contact.
5. Protect the Fingers, Wrists and Face
The fingers and wrists are usually among the first things owners damage. They are not designed to support the doll’s body weight. Before rolling, lifting or changing positions, make sure the hands and fingers are clear and are not trapped underneath the body.
Move joints deliberately rather than forcing them. If a joint reaches resistance, stop rather than trying to muscle it farther.
The face also deserves extra care. Eyelashes, makeup and other cosmetic details are more delicate than the body. Avoid scrubbing them and be careful when removing or installing the head.
6. Storage
For many dolls, flat padded storage in a neutral position with the limbs relaxed is a simple option. Some manufacturers also support approved hanging systems. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for your model.
Avoid leaving the doll for long periods with concentrated pressure on soft areas or with joints held under unnecessary stress. Keep it away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and moisture.
Also think about storage before buying your next doll. Full-size dolls can be awkward dead weight even when their listed weight sounds manageable.
7. Powder, Oil and Other Maintenance Products
Recommendations vary by material formulation and manufacturer. Some TPE dolls may benefit from manufacturer-approved powdering or oil treatments, while other products or materials may call for different care. Do not assume that something recommended for one doll belongs on every TPE or silicone doll.
If you are unsure, ask us and tell us the manufacturer and model.
8. If Something Gets Damaged
Do not panic and do not immediately start experimenting with random glues, solvents or repair products. Small tears, finger-wire issues, stains and other problems often require different solutions depending on the material and location.
If you bought your doll from Vivant Dolls, text us with the manufacturer/model and a clear photo of the problem. If it is something we recognize, we can usually point you toward the appropriate next step or manufacturer guidance.

The Four Things to Remember
If you remember nothing else: clean it, dry it completely, protect the fingers, and watch dark fabrics. Those four habits prevent a large percentage of the avoidable problems we see with first-time owners.
